Questionnaire Analysis

My Questionnaire

What is your favourite Music Magazine?

From the 30 people that I asked to complete my questionnaire, 15 of the votes went in favour of the magazine Q. The reason for this is because the magazine offers a wide range of artists and bands of different genre in their magazine and doesn't just focus on the one genre such as Kerrang magazine which focuses only on rock. From these results I will base my magazine on Q because I feel with half the votes voting for this magazine it shows the magazine is very popular with the public and it attracts many readers. The graph shows that second choice is NME magazine this shows that if I want to focus on a certain genre then Indie would be the ideal choice.

How often do you buy a music magazine?

From this graph it shows people rarely buy music magazines with 14 votes. However with my new music magazine I’m trying to encourage readers to buy music magazines by making them more appealing and attracting different target audiences. This is why I’m trying to focus my magazine on Q because of its popularity. Q is also sold monthly which was in second place with 10 votes on the questionnaire graph. This indicates that the target audience prefer reading music news and all the latest gossip over a month instead of weekly instalments.

What do you like to be included in your Double Page spread?

From the results my questionnaire shows that an interview is the preferred choice for a double page spread, therefore I will include an interview with one of the latest artists or bands on my centre pages. By doing so this will increase my target audience and more readers will become interested in buying the magazine to read about their favourite artist or band. However on my double page spread I intend to add a column down the right hand side of the page which will include the top 10 facts you may not know about the band or artist.

What colour schemes do you like in your magazine?

The colour scheme I have decided to choose and was the most popular from the questionnaire will be black, white and red, this is because the magazine Q, which is a very popular magazine with my target audience also uses this colour scheme. This will then influence and attract Q’s audience to look at and read my magazine as it will stand out just like Q does in the shops. This colour scheme also indicates the genre as it shows it can be a variety, whereas black, white and gold is a more rock theme and appeals more towards rock lovers that is why Kerrang use it because it is very attractive to the rock audience.

On your Front Cover what intrigues you the most?

From the results of my questionnaire it is quite clear that people who completed my questionnaire prefer having a large image on their front cover as half of the votes voted for a large image. This works to my advantage as I want to focus my magazine on the Q design which often has large images on their front cover to intrigue their target audience as a large image can be easily spotted on the magazine shelves and is therefore easy for people to find, pick up and read.

What layout do you like for your Contents?

For the layout for my contents page I will have a mixture of images and text this is because from my questionnaire it indicated that most people prefer a mixture and not a focused amount of text or a mass of images as this looks messy. I’ve decided to do this so my contents page still looks professional and organised with the images portraying information to the target audience.

What is your favourite genre of music?

From the results on my graph, R&B, Indie, Pop and Rock have all obtained the same number of votes. This is ideal as I'm basing my magazine on Q, which is a magazine for various genres. This will also increase the range of my target audience, attracting more people to read my magazine.

Who is your favourite artist/band?

From this wide range of results it shows that rock and R&B artists are more favourable with the music audience, meaning that I shouldn’t focus my magazine on one certain genre as they have a smaller audience, so it should be a mixture just like Q as this will bring a larger target audience for my magazine.

Do free gifts encourage you to buy a music magazine?

The results from my questionnaire show that free gifts such as CD’s and posters help encourage the reader to buy the magazine over another magazine. So my magazine front cover will advertise a free item, from time to time, so that my magazine will appeal to my target audience over the competitions.

What price would you pay for a music magazine?

From the graph the results show that the target audience are willing to pay top price for the magazine if the quality of the magazine content is good and it entertains them when reading about their favourite artist or band. So from this information my magazine will be sold at £2.99 because 15 people from my questionnaire indicated that they would be willing to pay that price for a music magazine.
