Evaluation of School Magazine

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The forms and conventions I included in my magazine were the main features that are normally on popular magazines, this will then encourage my selected target audience to buy this magazine.
On my front page I put the title of the magazine at the top of the page in large white font, which was larger than the other font that was on the front cover of the magazine as this would help it stand out for the audience to easily see the name of the magazine.
I placed a large image into the middle of the page to indicate to the audience what the magazine is about. Throughout my front cover and contents page I stuck with a three type colour scheme which was light blue, white and black. The light blue was used as the background as this is a bright attracting colour to catch the reader’s eye. The white colour was used for the font as this worked well with the background as it didn’t look out of place or to unprofessional. The black colouring was used for the page numbers as it helps stand out for the readers to see what article was on which page.
The subheadings throughout my front cover and contents is in white font which is larger than the font under it as this describes the sub heading and gives a little more information to the audience to make them become intrigued about the magazine and want to read more.
The logo of Whitley Bay High School is in the corner of the pages to show the logo of the magazine to the audience so they can recognise it.
The contents page, just like the front page has the title underline to separate it from the other text, it also includes an introduction which is very command in magazines briefly describing what the contents includes to keep the reader interested and wanting to read on.
The contents is also very imaged based as it has three medium size photos which helps fill up the page well and make it look professional instead of empty gaps on the page.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When using the different types of technology I had to be very patient and focused when deciding if the quality was right and correct to use.
When using the camera and getting the perfect medium close up shot I had to keep the camera very still and use the zoom in button to get the exact positioning of the photo. When taking the photo I used artificial light to make the picture look more professional and creative.
When creating my magazine I used the following software Photoshop as this software looks very professional and modern and can create good effects like other top magazine brands. The type of tools I used on Photoshop was the text tool, for creating text, I also used the magic wand tool to help cut out the logo for the Whitley Bay High school badge off a jumper so it give a more professional look. I also used the shape tool to create the triangle for the issue “1 sign”.
In Photoshop I used the layers well as I filled a shape up with a light blue filling and used that as the first layer so it could act as the background and then follow it by the largest image on the front cover, then followed by the smaller images to covering some areas of the larger image. Then the next layers were the text, if it wasn’t then the text would not of been shown so I had to make sure it was put on last.
